Houstonians show holiday spirit at annual food drive

Mayor White kicked off the holiday season with the KTRK Share Your Holiday food drive.

Mayor White took time out to speak with KTRK reporter Don Nelson about the importance of helping those less fortunate, especially during the holidays.

Volunteers from all over the city joined together to prepare hundreds of boxes of food for local kitchens. The Houston Food Bank distributes donations to hunger relief agencies that serve Houston and surrounding areas.

For nearly 25 years, the KTRK annual food drive has helped those in need during the holidays, collecting more than 6 million pounds of nonperishable food, 15 million pounds of produce donated by the Houston Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Association, and more than $166,000 in cash contributions.
