Runners kick off Chevron Houston Marathon Weekend
For many Houstonians, it time to put their physical training to the test. Today marks the start of the Chevron Houston Marathon Weekend and Mayor White was on hand at the George R. Brown Convention Center to help kick off the event. He joined sponsors in wishing runners good luck and congratulated organizers for making this year's marathon the biggest yet.
In the spirit of keeping Houston moving, Mayor White will fire the starting gun to begin the marathon and half marathon at 7 a.m. The EP5K will get under way at 7:30 a.m.
Registration for the Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Houston Half Marathon reached the combined field limit of 17,000 and closed in late September, a record 14 weeks prior to race day. More than 20,000 runners will take to the streets of Houston on Sunday in three events. The fastest runners will compete for a prize purse that tops $230,000.
