Site Offers Houstonians Health Insurance Choices

Mayor Bill White announced the launch of a new health insurance Web site Tuesday to help consumers make informed choices about purchasing health insurance coverage. The site was created to encourage the uninsured to seek affordable coverage and improve accessibility to information about a variety of health care plans.

HoustonHealthChoice.com will serve as a clearinghouse for information about policies available and price ranges.

“Too many families and small businesses in Houston are without any coverage and we want to help people know more easily what options are out there for them,” Mayor White said. “It’s a consumer-friendly, unbiased source of information that isn’t in the business of selling insurance.”

Only policies offered by B+ or higher rated companies are included in the site. Mayor White said he hopes this site can make a difference in the lives of the more than 1 million Houstonians who are without health coverage.
